“ Casual with food & beverages to grab a small bite. It was a bit noisy sitting by the counter-fridge which made it difficult to hear some people speak. ”

“ The venue is pretty in and of itself. It's a small independent coffee shop. Has good wi-fi. It is located in a place of town (downtown, Gastown, close to East Side) that some people may not feel comfortable, but in all my visits, safety has never been an issue for me, ever. ”

“ Kinda cramped for having that many people in there. Those against the wall and seated were pretty much "stuck" there and there wasn't enough space to stand and chat because people kept going to the back for drinks. ”

“ Neighborhood can be sketchy. Time was OK on a summer night where it stays light quite late, but I'm not sure I'd go there in the winter. ”

“ While the Blackwater Café is an OK independent coffee house, it is in an area of town (about 2 blocks from Main and West Hastings) that many people may not feel comfortable meeting in the evening. During our meetup, several street people yelled at the doorway, and while we weren't threatened or made to feel unsafe in any way, it is hard to ignore that it's a locale that some would prefer to avoid, particularly after dark. For that reason, I think it would be good to keep this as a venue mainly in the summer months. It's also a little small for our larger meetups. The coffee and food seemed adequate (nothing special, but not particularly bad either). ”

“ Full disclosure: I'm biased! I live right around the corner. It has solid wifi in my experience, and the owners said if need be they could make it a 'private' event for us, so there would be plenty of room for the usual-sized bloggers crowd.
Additionally, I like to support this business which has committed substantively to the people, planets, profits business model - including deliberately setting up shop in my gastown/dtes neighbourhood as a means to contribute, not invade, the community here. ”
