Relief Meetups: A Sandy Update from Meetup HQ
Meetup HQ is based in NYC and about a third of the team had power knocked out, as did many fellow Meetup members & Organizers up and down the Eastern Seaboard.
From the start, Meetup has been about neighbors coming together to unleash good things together. And when Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, Meetup Groups around the world rallied their members to help out.
The Meetup community is already scheduling relief Meetups in the form of resource-sharing, ride-sharing, blood drives, fundraising for the Red Cross, collecting donations and volunteering for clean up efforts in hard hit areas.
Getting involved can mean lots of things. The NY Tech Meetup is rallying their members to help New York businesses and organizations get their technology back up and running. What can you do?
If you have been directly affected, see if your Meetups can help you help each other somehow. If you aren’t directly affected, see if your Meetups can make a difference for others in your town.
And if you’d like to start a new Sandy Hurricane Relief Meetup Group, we’ll waive the initial fees. Use the coupon code “sandyrelief” and make sure your members know it’s about Hurricane Relief when creating your Meetup Group.
We hope your Meetups help.
